Stainless Under-Sink Carbon Water Filter, USA-Made – CuZn UC-100
Stainless Under-Sink Carbon Water Filter, USA-Made – CuZn UC-100
Why we choose CuZn UC-100
The CuZn UC-100 is a well-built, affordable under-sink filter that does its core job without electricity, without wasting a drop of water, and without stripping the minerals from your water. It uses a combination of KDF and activated carbon media in a stainless-steel housing, it is made in the USA, and it connects inline to your existing cold water line so you get filtered water straight from your tap. It is a genuinely good filter at a fair price, and the honest question with it, as with any carbon filter, is what its claims are actually certified to cover, which we will be clear about.
How does the CuZn UC-100 filters
1. Water flows under your home's normal pressure through a bed of KDF and activated carbon.
2. KDF media is good at chlorine and heavy metals, while the activated carbon handles chlorine, taste, odor, and organic compounds.
3. Because it filters rather than strips, beneficial minerals stay in the water, and because there is no membrane, there is no wastewater and no need for electricity or a storage tank.
4. One cartridge lasts about a year, or 10,000 gallons.
What does the CuZn UC-100 actually reduces, and how it is verified
This is the part to read carefully. The UC-100 is certified to NSF/ANSI 42 and 372, which cover the reduction of chlorine, taste, and odor, and confirm the system's materials are lead-free. That certification is genuine, but it is the same point we make across this collection: it covers chlorine and materials, not the removal of PFAS or lead.
CuZn does claim that the UC-100 reduces PFAS, PFOS, and lead through its KDF and carbon media, and there is a real basis for that, since carbon can adsorb some PFAS and KDF can capture some heavy metals. But those reductions are the manufacturer's claim, supported by their own testing, not part of the NSF certification. So treat the chlorine and taste reduction as certified, and the PFAS and lead reduction as manufacturer-claimed rather than independently certified. If certified PFAS reduction is what you want from an under-sink filter, the WaterChef U9000 in our collection carries that certification and is the stronger choice; the CuZn is the more affordable option whose PFAS claim rests on the maker's own testing. For context on why PFOA and PFOS reduction is worth prioritizing, the EPA has set enforceable limits for both and a health goal of zero: https://www.epa.gov/pfas
The honest tradeoffs
1. Like any carbon or KDF filter, it does not reduce dissolved salts such as fluoride, nitrates, or total dissolved solids, which is reverse osmosis territory.
2. Its PFAS and lead reductions are not third-party certified, as noted.
3. And it installs under the sink and connects to your plumbing, which is more involved than a countertop unit, though it needs no power.
4. On the positive side, the stainless housing and US manufacture are real advantages over the plastic filters common in this category.

Our Take: The True Shift Score (7.5 / 10)
A quick note on the number below. This is our own assessment, not a lab result or a certification. It reflects how we weigh the things a non-toxic home actually depends on, which means materials, durability, and waste count for more in our scoring than convenience does.
Filtration for Purpose: 7 / 10
Certified for chlorine, taste, and lead-free materials, with PFAS and lead reduction claimed through its KDF and carbon media but not independently certified, which is the main thing holding it below the certified WaterChef.
Non-Toxic Build: 8 / 10
A stainless-steel housing and US manufacture, a real step up from the plastic common in this category.
Durability and Longevity: 8 / 10
No pump, no electronics, and no membrane to fail, running on water pressure alone, with a one-year cartridge.
Waste Reduction: 9 / 10
No wastewater, no electricity, retained minerals, and a long-life cartridge.
Ease of Use: 7 / 10
Filtered water on demand once installed, with no power needed, the tradeoff being an under-sink installation.
Value Over Time: 8 / 10
A low upfront price and cheap, infrequent cartridge changes make it economical to own.
Overall, our 7.5 reflects a durable, low-waste, well-priced filter whose build we genuinely like, held below the WaterChef by the fact that its PFAS and lead claims are manufacturer-tested rather than certified.
When a different option is the better call
- If you want certified PFAS and lead reduction rather than a manufacturer claim, the WaterChef U9000 is the certified under-sink pick.
- If you need to reduce fluoride, nitrates, or total dissolved solids, a reverse osmosis system from our collection is the right tool.
➜AquaTru Classic Countertop Purifier (countertop, no plumbing, certified)
➜ AquaTru Carafe Countertop Purifier (countertop, no plumbing, glass carafe)
➜ Bluevua RO100ROPOT-LITE Countertop System
➜ Waterdrop WD-A2 Countertop System
➜ APEC ROES-100 Essence Under-Sink System (under-sink, no power needed)
using whatever handle you set.
➜ Waterdrop G3P800 Tankless System (under-sink)
➜ APEC ROTL-A1000ALK Tankless System (under-sink, certified, alkaline, 1000 GPD) using whatever handle you set.
- If you do not want to install anything, the AquaTru Classic or Carafe filter on the counter.
- And if your concern reaches beyond drinking water to the water you shower and bathe in, or to sediment and chlorine throughout the house, a whole-house system from our collection treats every tap at the point of entry, though for PFAS and lead at the kitchen tap you would still pair it with a point-of-use system like this one.
➜ Aquasana Rhino 1 Million Gallon
➜ 3M Aqua-Pure AP904 Stainless Steel
➜ SpringWell Ultimate Whole-Home Combo
➜ Crystal Quest Whole-House Reverse Osmosis
- The case for the CuZn is an affordable, durable, no-waste under-sink filter that keeps your minerals.
Common questions about the CuZn UC-100
Does CuZn UC-100 remove PFAS?
CuZn claims PFAS and PFOS reduction through its carbon and KDF media, and carbon can adsorb some PFAS, but this is a manufacturer claim rather than a certified one. Its NSF certification covers chlorine and lead-free materials. For certified PFAS reduction, see the WaterChef U9000.
Is CuZn UC-100 certified?
Yes, to NSF/ANSI 42 and 372, for chlorine reduction and lead-free materials. The PFAS and lead reduction claims sit outside that certification.
Does CuZn UC-100 waste water or need power?
No to both. It runs on your home's water pressure and sends nothing to the drain.
Does CuZn UC-100 remove fluoride?
No. Carbon and KDF do not reduce fluoride, nitrates, or dissolved salts. That is reverse osmosis territory.
Is CuZn UC-100 plastic?
The housing is stainless steel and the unit is made in the USA, a step up from the plastic filters common in this category.
How we evaluate products
Rather than a single number, here is the basis for the recommendation. We weighted contaminant reduction and its verification heavily, drew the honest line between its NSF certification for chlorine and materials and the manufacturer claims for PFAS and lead, credited the stainless build, US manufacture, and zero waste, noted that carbon does not address fluoride or TDS, and set the unit against named alternatives including the certified WaterChef so the choice is contextual.
